Lotus Bakeries plans to invest at least 500 million euros by 2030 in what the Belgian biscuit and spread maker calls its largest investment programme ever for Biscoff, as demand for its speculoos products keeps climbing.

The spending will be spread across three sites: an expansion of its existing plant in Lembeke, Belgium, further production capacity at its site in Mebane in the United States, and an additional build out at its facility in Chonburi, Thailand.

The expansion in Mebane is expected to be fully operational by 2029, while the first new production line in Thailand is targeted to come online by 2027.

The investment comes on the back of strong financial results. Revenue for the first six months of the year rose to nearly 750 million euros, a 14 percent increase compared with the same period a year earlier, while operating profit climbed 23 percent to 130 million euros.

The Biscoff brand, the company's flagship speculoos cookie and spread line, was the standout performer, with both revenue and sales volume up by at least 20 percent over the period.

The scale of the build out underlines how far Biscoff has grown beyond its origins as a Belgian coffee shop staple, into a product line now manufactured and sold across three continents.
